Trevor Lucas - Photo Essay
My name is Trevor Lucas, I'm 33 years old and have lived in Sachs Harbour all of my life. Our village is the Northwestern most community in Canada and is the only village on Banks Island. Sachs Harbour has a population of about 120 Inuvaluit people. In our native language, the village is known as Ihaakuk, which means "the place where one crosses", in English. I hunt for a living, and have worked for the Department of National Resources and the local Hunters and Trappers committee. My family has lived in Sachs Harbour since 1958, when the village was first founded. My family has been living in this part of the Northwest Territories for 3 generations. I currently live with my mother and father, and have 3 sisters and 4 brothers living nearby in the village.
